Devil’s Proposal. Episode 6

“Mama, your coming here would be a hell for me. Without you here, your son has made the house a burning furnace and I can’t imagine what would happen if you join.
Please leave the house now!” I shouted loud What kind of a woman added salt to her daughter-in-law’s injury? I knew how Lizzy related with her mother-in-law as sisters.
What destiny is this that I have chosen oh God?
Mama stood up and walked confidently to me. She grabbed me by the neck and pushed me into a seat. I had started shaking and I screamed
“You want to kill me even in my own house?” I cried and she laughed mischievously
“That is what is done to children that lack home training” she said and strangled me the more, her sharp nails digging into my fair skin.
“Jesus! Zoe! Zoe!” I cried out but my daughter was upstairs sleeping.
I can’t die like this oh Lord. I cried out more and more and the door opened suddenly.
Zack walked inside and saw the scene.
“Sanu de zoa” his mother welcomed him in hausa language
“Yowa!” he responded
“I need to teach this girl some lessons. She lacks home training” she said and Zack smiled
“Just don’t kill her” He said, carried his briefcase and was about turning to go upstairs when I gathered unequalled strength and I pushed her away with full force. She hit her head on the floor and screamed.
Zack dropped his briefcase and rushed to her.
“Do you want to kill her for me? Nita!” he exclaimed, ensured his mum was okay and then walked towards me.
I smiled mischievously, charging at him with Unclad courage
“You want to fight for your mother?” I asked as I charged at him the more. He aimed a blow at me which I dodged successfully.
I picked him up, dropped him into the cushion and rained punches on him.
“Die! Die! Die!” I screamed as I hit him. The mother stood up, meaning to hit me again.
I ran upstairs, into her room, dropped her bag and ran back into the sitting room.
As Zack was about to hit me with the flower vase, I took his mother and used her as a shield. She dug her nails into my skin but I endured it as I pulled her out of the sitting room, with her bag in a hand. I pushed her out and threw her bag after her. I ran inside, closed the door and faced the raging Zack.
“I am sure your Fulani spirit has descended upon you. But see, I have many Fulani friends that are not devilish like you but Zack, I want you out of my house this instance.” I shouted as my eyes turned really red that they ached.
“Nita, you are stupid! Do you know what you would lose if this happens. Do you know the repercussion of hitting my mother?” he started again with a dangerous look on his face
“What would you do to me? See, I don’t care anymore. Just leave my house you generation of killers!” I screamed again and he ran towards me, aiming to carry me and probably hit me on the floor. He reeked of alcohol.
“So, you now drink?” I asked, disdainfully
“What right do you have to ask me?” he shouted and I attacked him, held his hands in a lock and pushed him out the house.
“Good riddance to bad rubbish!” I exclaimed and
b@nged the door!
I p@nted so heavily as I rested my back against the door and allowed my tears flow.
“Oh God! I never prayed for this all my life!” I cried over and over again.
The devil really proposed to me in divers in a lot of ways and I said yes to him.
I rushed to the water dispenser, poured hot water and drank it. As it burnt my lips, tongue and throat, I cried so badly.
I couldn’t even feel the presence of the Holy Ghost. He had forsaken me!
Or you have forsaken him! Something told me and I shook my head vigorously!
“God, please have mercy upon me! I don’t want to kill at all! I am frustrated as it were and I don’t want it again o” I cried out, beating the floor hard.
Was this really how marriage felt? I should have remained single then.
I ran upstairs into my room and scrambled for my phone.
“I need to call this lawyer. Whatever needs to be done must be done” I said to myself.
My parents were lawyers but I had decided not to contact that for marital issues. I had always vowed to show them that Christian marriages could be heaven on earth but see how all just turned against me.
“Hello, please could you link me up to Barrister Adeoye?” I asked
“Who is speaking please?”
“This is Nita Al-Makura. Connect me to the barrister please”
“Ma, he was sacked last week over fraudulent acts.” The voice replied me and my head started sparking.
“What!”
“Ma, but thank God you had moved all your papers from him before this happened” he was saying when I stopped him abruptly as I started seeing stars.
“Move what papers?”
“Your husband and his new lawyer came here last week to transfer…” he was saying when I screamed and fell to the bed.
I started stuffing the bed sheet into my mouth as if it were food. I wanted to badly and urgently die.
My life-long investment worth millions of naira! Gone into the hands of another lawyer- just like that!
The bed sheet touched my throat and I stuffed it on and on, until it got stuck in there and I passed out!
