I laid the items on the bed and looked at them. A nude pencil skirt and a floral shirt with yellow heels. I love yellow.

I got changed and all the sudden the phone Joshua got me started ringing. “Hello?” I asked.

“Valentina!” Someone yelled into the phone.

I pulled my ear away a bit. “Joshua?”

“You need to get out of the house right now!” he said still yelling.

“Why?” I asked as I hung up my clothes. What is he talking about?
“Just do as I say!”

He’s out of his mind. “Joshua, you’re scaring me” I said calmly. “I’m getting dressed then I’ll be out of the house in like 15 minutes. Miles gave me the box, I love everything” I smiled.

“I’m glad Valentina but you really need to hide”

“What’s going on?” I shouted. “Why won’t you tell me?

“I’m on my way and the police are too”

I stopped listening to him as the doorbell rang. He might be joking but then again when does he joke with me, and why would he about something like this? “Hold on someone’s at the door”

“Don’t answer that f****ng door!” He screamed into the phone. I pulled the phone away once again. “Leticia is trying to kill you. You and Miles need to hide NOW!”

I guess he’s not playing, I guess he’s serious. “Oh my God” I said finally believing him. “O-okay, umm, oh my God Joshua, where do I go?” I cried.

“Go in the-”

“Miles don’t open the door!” I shouted. “MILES!” I screamed as a arm reached into see the house and pulled out a gun.

~Bang Bang~

“Run, Ms. Valentina” Miles said weakly as he he held his stomach while laying on the ground.

“Oh my G- MILES!” I said quiet enough for Leticia to now hear.

“Valentina!” Joshua’s voice snapped me back to what was happening. “Go into my office and lock the door!”

I felt my palms get sweaty and everything seemed to go slow. My head pounded and I seemed to stumble across the floor as I got to his office.

I ran inside, closing the door and locking it. “I’m here”

“Under the couch there is a black box, the key to it is in my desk drawer”

“Okay” I said breathing hard as I followed Joshua directions. “I found it”

“Okay now just-”

“Oh my gosh” I said quietly. “She’s coming”

The tears from my eyes didn’t fall. They themselves were to scared to move.

“Open the box now, Valentina”

“I am!” I shouted quietly getting frustrated that he’s not actually here. I open the box and gasped.

“What is it?” He asked.

“A gun? I can’t shoot a gun, Joshua. I’ve never shot a gun!”

“Valentina just take it and hide the police are on their way”

Why aren’t they here yet? Why isn’t he here yet?

I whimpered and took the gun in one hand and the phone in the other. I opened the door to his office and moved to the bedroom. As I walked in Leticia’s back was staring in my face.

I quickly jumped back and hid behind the door.

“Where are you?” she started mumbling.

While she was talking to herself in the bedroom I took that as an opportunity to sneak past and go downstairs.

I’m five feet from the door when someone says. “Don’t take another f****ng step”

I stop immediately in my tracks and turn around slowly.

“You b***h” she was at the top of the stairs pointing the gun at me. “How dare you come into my life and steal my boyfriend?”

I hid the gun behind my back and I couldn’t respond. “We were in love and you stepped in, why?”

I realized I had the phone in my hand so I pushed it in my waistband. “He doesn’t love me” I said.

“He does don’t lie!” She yelled.

“I’m leaving him!” I said. “I never loved him, I only wanted his money” I tried to convince her.

“Why?” She said as she moved down the steps.

“He’s a cold-hearted bas***d, I can’t be with someone who has no regard for anyone’s feelings. See what he did to you?” She reached the bottom of the steps and stopped walking. “I want the same thing you want!” I laughed nervously. “I want revenge” tears started falling from my eyes.

“I don’t believe you” her voice echoed through the house.

I looked over at Miles and there was a pool of blood surrounding him. He needs to get to a hospital.

“How can I prove it to you?”

She stayed quiet for a while. She bit her lip and rubbed her arm. She took a deep breath before she answered. “I don’t want you too. I want you to die!” She made a clicking noise with the gun and shot.

I ducked and heard glass shatter behind me. I bolted toward the door and ran out. I heard her yelling as I ran into the bushes.

Where are the police? Where is Joshua? They need to get here before she kills me.

She ran out the door after me. “Where the f**k are you?” She screamed.

I’m not well hidden in these bushes. I need to get her before she gets me.

I held the gun my hands and looked at it. In movies people take the safety off, aim and shoot. I don’t even know where the safety is, I don’t even know if it’s on.

I aimed the gun at her and decided to try to shoot. If the safety is on it won’t shoot, if it’s not she’ll get shot. I rubbed my finger on the trigger and closed my eyes. Take a wild guess I shot the gun.

A loud bang and screaming filled my ears, so the safety wasn’t on. I need to yell at Joshua for that.

Police sirens could be heard from the distance and I heard the gravel fly everywhere as they slammed on the brakes. “Drop the gun!” They yelled and aimed their guns at Leticia. I dropped the gun I had in my hands and stayed where I was.

I couldn’t see her but I could hear her sobbing loudly. They all ran up to her and handcuffed her quickly. I peeked my head over the bushes and there were at least five cop cars and an ambulance.

“Where is she?!” I heard yelling. “This is my house where is she?”

“Sir, you need to calm down”

“Get your hands off me, where is my girlfriend?!”

My eyes followed the voice that I heard and I saw Joshua yelling at the officers. They tried to calm him down but he kept yelling.

“Joshua?” I said quietly as I stood from my place behind the bushes.

He didn’t see me as first. So I just stood there I could bring myself to move. And I didn’t realize it at first but I was crying. I’m still shocked about everything happening and I can’t believe that’s crazy girl didn’t kill me. I looked down at myself and I was covered in dirt, the clothes that Joshua bought me were ripped and torn. My hair was a puffy mess and I felt my face get hot from crying.

I had a cut on my arm and a bruise on my leg but I don’t care. I’m just glad that I get to see my baby.

He finally looked at me and ran over to me, he grabbed my arms and pulled me out the bushes. Wrapping his arms around me and squeezing me tightly.

“Oh God, Valentina” he finally said. “I’m never letting you out of my sight again”

I laughed loudly to keep myself from crying. He looked up and examined my body. “Are you okay, are you hurt? What did she do? Did she touch you?” He bombarded me with questions and it was hard for me to stay focused.

“Miles got hurt!” I finally remembered. When I looked toward he door they were carrying him out on a stretcher. I ran up to them and looked at Miles.

“Ma’am we need to have you examined by the EMT” a tall officer blocked Miles from my view.

“That’s Miles, I need to go with him”

“He’ll be fine, you can meet him at the hospital but right now you need to get examined by the EMT”

“Okay, Okay” I sighed and let him bring me to the EMT.

She asked me questions about how I was feeling if I was hurt and then she took some physical tests. Then the police came over and asked me questions.

I rubbed my head and sat down on the steps leaning my head against the rail. Joshua appeared out of nowhere and wrapped a blanket around me.

About an hour later the police left and it was quiet. The sun was setting and I was still sitting on the steps resting my head on the railing.

Joshua went off somewhere making calls or something, I wasn’t really listening but after a while he came and told me to come inside.

“I want to see Miles” I said looking up at him. “I have to make sure he’s ok”

“Honey, I promise we can see him in the morning but you to sleep” he pulled me up and walked with me in the house. “You just need to take a shower and rest”

We walked to the bedroom and I watched him as he pulled out clothes from the drawers. Then he walked in the bathroom and turned on the shower.

“Joshua”
“Come here” he said from the bathroom.

I dropped the blanket to the floor and walked inside. “Why would she do this?”

“I don’t know babe” he grabbed a ponytail holder and fumbled with my hair trying to put it in my hair. I smiled at him and he kissed my nose.

After putting my hair up I took a quick shower and got dressed. Heading downstairs I heard Joshua on the phone. “Yes he’ll be just fine, we’re going to visit him in the morning. Alright good bye” he rested his hand on the table and shook his head.

I walked up to him and hugged him from behind.

“I love you” he said.
Every time he says it I know he means it. It sounds sincere. “I love you too”

“I don’t know what I would’ve done if anything happened to you, Valentina” he turned around and held me close. “I’m so sorry that all this happened”

“You couldn’t have prevented it. She’s crazy”

“I could’ve if I’d just stayed here with you, if I didn’t even get involved with in the first place, maybe I can-”

“Joshua!” I placed my hands on his face. “It’s not your fault, she’s just a jealous crazy person who’s in jail now” I chuckled.

“I’m okay Joshua” I reassured him. “I’m fine, you’re here now”
