???? VALENTINA????
“Why do you say that?” He stepped back to look at me.
“For obvious reasons”
“Like what?” He looked like he was getting angry.
“Don’t turn this whole thing on me, this is you”
“How?!” He yelled.
“By keeping me here”
“I’m keeping you here for a reason” he shouted.
“Why?”
He clenched his jaw and forced himself to stop speaking. “Stop” I put my hands on his face. “Stop hiding things from me speak to me, please”
“Valentina…”
“I need to make sense of this. Your making this really hard to trust you, since you keep biting your tongue”
I could see he wasn’t going to say anything so removed my hands and turned away from him. “Why won’t you say anything?” I sighed. “What are you hiding?” He didn’t speak, when I looked at him he was looking at me with the saddest eyes someone ever could see.
I shook my head and walked over to the bed. I grabbed my bottle of water and walked out the room. If he’s not gonna speak to me, I’m not gonna speak to him. I gulped my water as I made my way downstairs and outside to the backyard.
He’s such a jerk head, a cute jerk head. He forces me to stay here then he won’t tell me why. I don’t even know what to think. It’s like I can’t even argue with him because he looks at me so intently, like it pains him to speak to me.
I walked around the large place and there was a pool. I sat down on the edge of the deep end and shoved my feet in.
I wish I could get in the water but I can’t swim. So I continue to kick it around, splashing like a little kid.
I see something moving around at the bottom of the pool. “What is that?” I say to myself as I lean over to investigate it. It’s coming closer to me so I remove my feet from the water.
Then it splashes up out the water. “Ahh!” I scream and hit it as hard as I can.
“Stop it” it says. I wipe the water from my eyes and look at it. It’s a boy, I frown. It’s a guy, I raise my eyebrows. He’s pretty cute. “I’m sorry” he laughs.
“Um…”
“I’m the pool boy, Liam” he shook my hand. He had a brown eyes and brown hair.
“I’m… Um…” He raised his eyebrows. I rubbed my head. “I’m sorry I’m still confused. Valentina”
“Nice to meet you Valentina” he backed away and kept swimming.
I put my hand on my heart and stood up. I should go get ready for tomorrow. I have to cook and all that good stuff.
I walk back inside and strut in the kitchen. I see Mile leaning over the counter on his phone. “You hungry, miss?” He asks when he sees me.
“No I have to cook”
“That’s my job, sit down” he walks to his book of food.
“No I mean I have to cook for the Masseys’ their coming tomorrow”
“Oh yes, Mr. Maxwell told me, he wants me to prepare salad, steak and potatoes”
“That’s it?”
“Yep”
“How about we make a lot of food and give to people at the homeless shelter?” I smiled.
“Yea, right” Mile scoffed and continued to prepare the food.
“I’m serious”
“Maybe another day” he shrugged.
“I’m so bored, what am I supposed to do?”
“Go visit your mother, I’m sure she’d like that”
“You don’t know my mother” I scoffed as I walked away and made my way back upstairs to the room.
When I opened the door, Mr. Maxwell was in the shower. I climbed on the bed and picked up my phone, ignoring him as he walked out the bat—hroom with his to-wel hugging low on his waist.
My stomach ties in a when I glance at him and my throat gets dry when he speaks.
“I’m sick of being here” I said starting up a subject.
He turned his head but didn’t look at me. “You’d rather have nothing?” He asked.
I didn’t say anything. What does he mean have nothing? I have a home, my mother, my job. “I didn’t have nothing” I defended myself.
“Then what did you have?”
“My mom” I said unconfidently.
“I’m sorry but your mother doesn’t love you” he quickly said. “I know everything, Valentina”
By the time he said this he was fully dressed and turned around. Maybe he’s right maybe my mom doesn’t love me but how would he know everything.
“How could you possibly know everything?” I asked a little scared but he didn’t answer. If he knows everything then he knows all about my past…I wanted to cry but I wasn’t going to let him win. When he didn’t answer I spoke again. “And you have everything?”
“Yes” he said nonchalantly.
“Why because you have money?”
“Yes” he said again.
“You have hate” I said. I wasn’t going to protect his feelings because he was hurting mine. “So I’m sorry but you have nothing, if you need a huge house with no one in it you obviously have some personal issues that you need to work on”
He didn’t speak, he finally stopped talking. He just sat there leaning on his dresser, looking at me. I grabbed my phone and called a cab, not caring if he heard me.
I don’t care about this deal, I won’t have someone talk about me or my mother this way. I packed a small bag of some of my things and walked out the front door. Sitting on the steps waiting for my ride.
“Valentina?”
I turned around and it was Nessie. She stood there with her hands gripping each other tightly. “Where are you going?” She asked.
“I’m leaving” I said as I turned back around. “I can’t stay with him” I sighed. “Let alone let him take my flower” I quickly added once I remembered the real reason why I’m here.
“He is just a fool, don’t let him get you down”
“I don’t care anymore, I’m ready to go”
“Nessie go inside” another voice said. I was hoping it was Miles but when the person sat down I knew it wasn’t.
“Come inside” he said. I could feel his eyes burning a whole in the side of my face but I still said nothing. “I’m sorry for what I said”
He’s not sorry, he can’t be sorry, he has to much pride. He sighed and turned his head away from me.
“How do you know everything?” I asked. “Everything like what?”
“The foster homes”
I shook my head. “It’s not true” I said quickly.
“I don’t know about them, I just know you had… a…” He stuttered for the right words. I guess he’s trying not to be insensitive. “Life wasn’t kind to you when you were younger” I didn’t say anything, I just swallowed the lump in my throat and felt my hands get sweaty.
“I’m not gonna talk about it”
“I wasn’t expecting you too. Not today at least”
Not today?! How about not ever? I sighed and scratched my head. “When is this cab gonna come?” I asked myself but he heard and answered.
“I cancelled it” he shrugged. I grabbed my bag and threw it on my back, trudging in the house.
I feel like such a kid. “I can’t fuc—king do anything” I yelled.
“You don’t have to get so mad” he grabbed my arm.
I snatched away from him. “Well I am” I yelled.
“Look I said I was sorry, what more do you want from me?” He yelled back.
“Sorry isn’t enough when it comes to you”
“Why is it different for me?!”
“Because you speak what’s on your mind and your not considerate for anyone’s feelings. You can’t be sorry and mean it”
“Yea I can” he pointed at himself. “I can be nice, I’m being nice right now”
“No your fu—–king not” I looked at him for a while. “Leave me alone”
