Chapter 48

Fred’s POV

I had been at the construction site for many hours, working. As much as I hate to work, I do not have a choice.

After 12 hours of work, all the workers were called together and given $500 each.

If I were the one sourcing for what to eat, it would affect the $500 I’m earning but my friends are responsible for the food I eat.

I’ll need to work for 40 days straight to be able to gather the $20,000 that I will use to divorce Sonia.

On the fiteenth day, we were told that some visitors would come to the site to examine what we have done and if they feel happy with what we are doing, the would reward us each with extra $500.

We were all hoping that we would get a good recommendations , I was dressed in a torn ripped old jeans, I rolled the left leg of my jean up to my knees while I left the second one.

My cloth had been dirty as always, my dark hair had been white as a result of the cement and sand we were mixing.

I looked horrible, I know.

But I must work to attain my freedom.

“The supervisors are around.” The man who leads us to work shouted and we all went to line up before the site.

We were about twenty three.

We watched as three black jeeps drove in, Two people alighted from the car in the middle while bodyguards stepped down from the first and last car.

These women must be rich.

I just hope they give us a good recommendation so my days of working here can be reduced by one.

As the women approached us, I noticed one’s face looked familiar.

On looking well, I saw that one of the women was Sonia’s mother.

What!

I then remembered Sonia telling me that her mom is a civil engineer and a successful one at that.

My heart began to beat in fear, I was scared to the gut. This was the same woman that beat me and I was at the edge of divorcing her daughter.

I lowered my head so she would not see my face.

“You guys are doing a good job.” The second women that accompanying Sonia’s mom said.

Sonia’s mom was having a silent conversation with our boss and as she looked around, our face met.
